Milpillas Mine, Sonora, Mexico
9 x 6.6 x 1.8 cm.
A rarely seen and quite spectacular Malachite/Barite combination from the recent finds at the Milpillas Mine in northern Mexico. It features numerous water-clear Barite crystals artfully positioned over a nicely contrasting matrix of 'velvet' Malachite. The shape of the Malachites suggests that these have replaced (pseudomorphed) an earlier generation of Azurite crystals. A few of the Barite crystals are incomplete as pictured, but this is not noticeable without very close examination.
